Blu-ray: the audio-visual one in details époustouflants… and 3D!

The fight between HD DVD and Blu-ray extremely made think of the combat between Betamax and VHS in the Eighties. Everyone was of agreement that Betamax had all the advantages on the quality of the recordings. Unfortunately for Betamax, VHS was cheaper and, moreover, the time of recording was, at the beginning, longer: 60 minutes against 180 maximum minutes.
Although the manufacturers who supported Betamax offered a solution to this problem, they arrived too late. VHS was already the favourite of the large studios of Hollywood productions. Moreover, the legend wants that VHS allowed the pornographic recordings whereas the creator of Betamax pushed back the pornography of his format.

What is it for the modern fight? Contrary to the battle of the Eighties, which lasted a good decade, that of the support for the high-definition was gained in a few years. On the other hand, some parallels nevertheless are found.

The beginning, in 2006 more or less, HD DVD allowed a better quality than Blu-ray. The old films which one quickly put on the market in Blu-ray were clearly less Nets that their against-shares in HD DVD. The reason was the codec of conversion which makes it possible to compress the enormous quantities of data necessary for the material in high-definition on a disc of 30 gigas.

That employed by HD DVD was thus better. Blu-ray hurried to solve this defect. Contrary to the attempts at Betamax to improve, Blu-ray was able to do it in time. Meanwhile, the team of marketing did not remain inactive and it gradually succeeded in convincing the Hollywood studios to choose its format.
For the consumer it is positive to have this clearness. Just as the readers of DVD at the time, the Blu-ray readers drop gently in price and become accessible, as well as the discs. Together with a television set LCD, plasma or LED with high-definition, the consumers can benefit today from the detail époustouflant in their living room, even in 3D. Technology case to astonish us!
