It is what the bios of a computer?

The BIOS (“BASIC Input/Output System” translate “elementary Management system of the inputs/outputs”) is an essential component of the computer, allowing the control of the material elements.

It is about a small software of which a part is in a ROMANIAN (read-only memory, i.e. a memory which cannot be modified), and another part is in a EEPROM (modifiable memory by electric impulses, from where the flasher term to indicate the action to modify the EEPROM).

The POST When the system is put undervoltage or restarted (Reset), the BIOS makes an inventory of the material present in the computer and carries out a test (called POST, for “Power one Self Test”) in order to check its good performance: To carry out a test of processor (CPU), To check the BIOS, To check the configuration of the CMOS, To initialize the timer (the clock interns), Initialiser controller DMA, Vérifier the random access memory and the memory hiding place, Installer all the functions of the BIOS, to check all the configurations (keyboard, diskettes, hard drives…).

If ever the POST meets an error, it will try to continue the starting of the computer. However if the error is serious, the BIOS will stop the system and: To post a message with the screen if possible (the material of posting still not being inevitably initialized or being able to be failing), to emit an aural signal, in the form of a sequence of beeps (English beeps) making it possible to diagnose the origin of the breakdown, to send a code (called code POST) on the port series of the computer, being able to be recovered using a specific material of diagnosis, If all is correct, the BIOS will generally emit a short beep, announcing that there is no error. Thus a long beep, follow-up of two short beeps indicates an error due to the video peripherals (graphics card).

In this case it is necessary to try to plug in the video chart correctly to even change some. Any other beep indicates an error due to the memory.
